In the year 2037, an uneasy calm has descended on the human race after control of the Earth and space forces had been largely divided between four new political blocs of power. Although humanity has managed to achieve peace, each power bloc is constantly probing the others, looking for weaknesses they can exploit. Peach Princess and Will's Sweet Basil label are proud to present the English world's first 'hard' sci-fi bishoujo adventure story, Critical Point, from one of Japan's top SF story writers!

Critical Point Game

The year is now 2037. Free Alliance Moon Base D-02 has recently reported a strange rash of technical malfunctions and mechanical problems. The military High Command suspects that sabotage by enemy forces may be the cause, and decides to dispatch a Special Investigator to resolve the issue and restore the base to full functionality before an enemy detects the situation and manages to exploit it. You are Captain Leiji Osumi of the Free Alliance Space Force, formerly a fighter pilot in the war. Your past is haunted by a terrible incident that caused you to be transferred from the front lines to the top secret Intelligence Division.

Your assignment is to go undercover as a Technical Advisor, discover the source of the technical problems on D-02, and restore the base to full functionality. No one will be aware of your true nature - not even the base commander - as no one is above suspicion in this matter. The military learned long ago that women are better adapted to extended isolated tours of duty, so the base is staffed almost entirely by female personnel. After arriving at the base, you discover that an inexplicable sexual insanity has gripped its normally professional staff, prompting further investigation. Are these strange occurrences somehow connected with the suspected sabotage? You must untangle the mystery and deal with both technological and biological warfare before one of the other power blocs notices that anything is amiss and tries to attack!

However, just as you begin to resolve the technical problems, a mysterious chain of gruesome murders begins to occur. No one on the base is safe, not even yourself, especially since the primary targets of the murders seem to be technical staff personnel! Commander Carla Benedict is in charge of Moon Base D-02. This strong, competent leader has kept her past history of commando training from being common knowledge, as well as her former marriage and divorce.

Ever since her academy days, she has always scored at the top of the curve in any evaluation - she has brains as well as physical strength and beauty, but she is at a loss as to what the source of trouble is on her base. Lieutenant Elise Triad is nominally just another engineering support technical staff member - however, in actual fact, she is codename EL-03, a top secret military prototype android whose true nature is known only to yourself and the base commander. You constantly have to remind yourself that Elise is simply an android, a mechanical doll, not a genuine human girl.

Your horrifying past requires this of you. It's something you can never forget. Elise's abilities would allow her to run the base in place of the central computer, if need be - she will be an invaluable asset to you in your investigation. You will also meet your support liason, Corporal Reiko Shinozuka, a fellow Japanese who happens to be a technical genius, even though she's a total clutz and terrible at personal communications. The base is currently being visited by a reporter named Monica Brown, who is intent on doing an expose' for the largest worldwide network. Lieutenant Julietta Thorndike is in command of the small squad of commandos stationed on the base, ably supported by Sergeant Jackie Kaminski, a very experienced NCO.

You must overcome Captain Lai Wong's haughty, superior attitude as the head of Engineering, and gain her respect as well as the support of her primary support officer, Lieutenant Marietta Dias. You must balance all of the personal interactions and conflicts while still maintaining a focus on your mission - time is running out, and the world is poised at the abyss of Armaggedon! The story for Critical Point was written by Kenichi Matsuzaki, who was heavily involved with Macross (Robotech), the original Gundam series, Orguss and Bubblegum Crisis.
