Greetings all, I have a problem that I can't resolve and searching the 'net brought me to the GPS Review forums. So, my first post is a solicitation for a little help! I just bought a Garmin Oregon 450t (to replace a 60CSx) and a 16 GB G.Skill MicroSD card. I initialized the card in my Mac as a FAT32 volume with a single partition of 16 GB.

How can the answer be improved? MapInstall Updates & Downloads. Don't have an account? Your Account. Fixed an issue when trying to select more than 4GB worth of tiles.

It shows up in the Mac Finder as having 16 GB available, but when I launch MapInstall (4.0.2) it shows up as only 4295 mb available. There is nothing else on the SD card so I do not understand why it only shows 4 GB available. It seems to be associated with the volume size limit of FAT32 but I am unsure why OS X sees it as 16 GB but MapInstall only sees it as 4 GB. I do not know much about Windows, so I apologize if this is a rudimentary questions. Thanks for any help.

I have not used MapInstall for awhile myself, but there are many bugs from what I've read. I gather one bug (or is it a 'feature'?) is that it treats both the device and the card as a single entity.

I wonder if it is telling you the size of the internal memory on your 450t, since that just happens to be 4GB? Have you tried to put the card into a USB reader or internal slot on your Mac? Does it still show 4GB if you do that? I don't think you are correct about 4GB being a 'volume size' for FAT32. Individual files are limited to 4GB but not the volume. You might want to check Garmin's Mac support forum for help on this, the software developers help users resolve this kind of problem over there. I wonder if there might be unemptied trash or other invisible files that the Finder ignores?

The Mac will always create invisible files whenever you insert a card. You might find this helpful, along with several other very handy utilities from JaVaWa: I use Windows to manage my GPS'es and run GIS/Mapping software. Garmin has gotten a lot better with Mac support recently but in the past it wasn't so great, and I still prefer their older Windows software (Mapsource) for sending maps. But I use my Mac for just about everything else.:D.
