Pokenet Game
Meghan’s Opinion. In his interview with Joystiq, Nushio argues that, compared to the recently-killed fan-made King’s Quest game, The Silver Lining, Pokenet never.

Meghan’s Opinion In his interview with Joystiq, Nushio argues that, compared to the, Pokenet never “caught as much as a whiff of money,” as stated above. But it seems awfully ignorant of the team to think that, because of this difference, the MMO would be safe from Nintendo’s grasp. King’s Quest is an IP that’s been dead for more than a decade and wasn’t even initially owned by Activision, the company that eventually put a stop to the game’s production.
Furthermore, The Silver Lining crew actually got the go-ahead from Vivendi Universal to make a non-commercial game before the rights for the IP transferred to Activision years later. As a game design student, I know what it’s like to be a fan of something and to want to try making a massive game to send out over the Internet for everyone to try out. However, I think that taking the Pokemon IP was foolish to do, and Nintendo had every right to shut it down (despite the fact that some people are whining about Nintendo being the bad guys). So I’m going to side with the “big, evil corporation” on this one. Also, the game itself wasn’t particularly impressive.
While I can appreciate a fellow game developer’s work, I noticed that it was already extremely similar to the real Pokemon games (even the world map itself is a lookalike). Not to mention the bugs. I think they could’ve mixed it up a lot more. My heart goes out to the PokeNet developers, but the game clearly wasn’t meant to be.
Next time they should try building off of their current engine and making an original game so that they’re not using copyrighted material. I do understand why Nintendo sent the C&D to the developers of PokeNet. I was one of the founders of the project but i left it quite soon to make my own stuff, but i do not understand why Nintendo stated on the C&D that Sienide would need to transfer the domain to Nintendo, because the domain itself is not under any of the Nintendos trademarks, the meaning of the pokedev keyword would change depending on the content of the site. I do understand why they stated that the site would be needed to take down and why the development of PokeNet would be needed to stop.
Poke Net
Really it just sucks to lose the domain, which has been under Sienides ownership for 3 years and it was there even before we started PokeNet. Well the only reason they want the domain is that they could make it to forward to nintendo.com like they did with the pokemon craters domain, you can try it - Anyway it was nice experience and those who say that making original game would have been better, yes it would have been better, but much harder for small team of hobby and learning developers. The world of independent game development is quite harsh as everyone wants to do their own stuff so no-one really joins other ones project to help out. Anyway there is still several pokemon mmo’s, web based and with real client like: pokemonworldonline, pokemonindigo, pokemonblack, pokemonvolcano, tppcrpg These are just few of those which are found by googling pokemon online, some of them take donations and have subscriptions to play. PokeNet was done totally free.
